Root Canal Treatments for children

Protect your child's smile: Early root canal treatments prevent pain and future orthodontic issues

1 hSmile Speak Dental Clinic, Airoli

Service Description

When the pulp (living tissue) inside a child’s tooth becomes infected due to trauma or decay, immediate treatment is crucial to preserve the tooth and prevent further complications. Milk teeth serve as essential guides for the permanent teeth to come, and losing them prematurely can lead to alignment issues and future orthodontic treatments. Signs of pulp infection include tooth sensitivity and pain, and X-rays may be needed to confirm the condition. The goal of treatment is to preserve the tooth whenever possible, avoiding extraction and the need for space maintainers, which may not fully restore functionality. Treatment Options: 1. Indirect Pulp Treatment: If the damage is minimal, the decay is removed, antibiotics applied, and the tooth is sealed. 2. Pulpotomy: If the upper portion of the pulp is affected, the damaged area is removed, and the healthy portion is stabilized before sealing the tooth. 3. Pulpectomy: In severe cases, all pulp tissue is removed, disinfected, and sealed, resembling adult root canal therapy but with absorbable materials for natural development. Calming Your Child: Root canals aren't as painful as often believed and are effective in relieving tooth pain. With proper anesthesia and gentle care, the process can be comfortable. Stay calm and reassure your child to help ease their nerves before the procedure.
