A discoloured front tooth is a result of an injury of a trauma which has happened many years ago. The trauma could be a cycling accident, a fall, a cricket ball injury. a direct hit to the mouth etc. the impact of the injury slowly kills the nerve of the tooth and the creates an infection which over time, darkens the tooth. most of the time, the patient may see a brownish or greyish tooth, sometimes it can also present itself with a swelling of the mouth or a pus boil in the gums next to the affected tooth. Treatment: A Root canal treatment has been done, appropriate treatment of infection in the bone, if any, a bleach and then a veneer or crown depending on the health of the tooth structure. A discolored central incisor often results from trauma, where impact damages the tooth’s living cells. Over time, the decomposing tissue releases brown pigments, leading to a darkened tooth that can persist for years. Treatment typically involves performing a root canal if it hasn’t already been done. There are two main methods to restore the tooth’s color: 1. Internal Bleaching: We place a bleaching agent, usually a mix of sodium perborate and hydrogen peroxide, into the pulp chamber of the discolored tooth. This mix lightens the tooth from within. The process is repeated every 5-6 days until the desired shade is achieved, followed by a permanent filling. 2. Porcelain Veneer: If internal bleaching doesn’t fully match the color of adjacent teeth, a porcelain veneer may be applied. This involves preparing the front surface of the tooth to bond a veneer, which covers any remaining intrinsic stains and ensures a seamless appearance.
